There it is, the crazy center! 5 pawns lined up next to one another on the 4th rank! Don’t see that very often. Compare it (a nice horizontal line) with the Irish Pawn Center (a sick vertical tableau – tripled isolated pawns). I heard there’s a chess query language to figure out exactly how many times it’s been recorded previously. Readers? In this game, white gets overextended, is losing a rook ending, battles back ingeniously to make counterplay, only to go wrong as the final seconds tick down – a typical blitz game.

  1. Frisco Del Rosario Says:

Against the Big2000 database of 1.3 million games — included with ChessBase 10 years ago — Chess Query Language found 162 games with white pawns from c4 to g4, in which White scored 66%.
